JFKHS Read-A-Thon 2017 Song/Poem Contest Winners

In support of IRA”s Read-A-Thon 2017 “Read to the Beat,” JFKHS held a Kick Off Week of activities from February 6-10. On the last day, a contest was held in which students recited and performed original poems and songs promoting literacy and the importance of reading. After careful deliberation by a set of teacher judges, the following pieces came out on top and won the grand prizes worth up to $50 each!

Winning Poem: “Catch Us Doing Literacy, How About That?” by Shayla Quichocho, Kenneth Ruda, Kaelani Santos, and Jbert Satauo

Winning Song: “What Kind of World (The Importance of Reading)” by Jarvis Aguon and Timothy Villanueva

Read-A-Thon 2017 Kick Off A Success!

IRA members celebrated the Read-A-Thon Kick Off: Read to the Beat with cheers, music, performances, and meaningful literacy presentations by Lois Gumataotao, Dylan Orot, and Evangeline "Vangie" Chaco.  The presentations included the following:  Literacy through music, 20 fun reading response activities for fiction and non-fiction, and turning minds on using foldables!
