January Meeting Announcement by Guam Council IRA President Asuncion

Buenas yan Hafa Adai,

I am writing as a courtesy, to inform you that our author, Kathryn Erskine’s flight has been delayed due to inclement weather in Virginia. Kathryn’s flight is scheduled to arrive at 9:50 p.m. on Saturday therefore, she will be unable to present at the general membership meeting. I have attached her schedule for the week and you are more than welcome to meet and greet her and attend one of her SASSy presentations on the schedule. Please remember that if you attend a presentation at a school site, it is required that ALL VISITORS sign in at the main office.

Places to Meet & Greet Kathryn….
1. Sunday, January 16, 2011, no host informal dinner at Jeff’s Pirates Cove at 4:00 p.m.;
2. Monday, January 17, 2011, Teacher Workshop at Ordot-Chalan Pago Elementary School from 8:00 – 10:00 a.m.;
3. Saturday, January 22, 2011, Teen Workshop at IP Coffee Co. in Mangilao from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Our general membership meeting will continue as scheduled for this Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Sheraton Laguna Guam with a different program. I am asking your assistance in sharing this information with family and friends. Thank you for your continued support and commitment to our council.

National Book Award Winner Erskine will be January Keynote Speaker

Kathryn Erskine, 2010 National Book Award winning author of Mockingbird, will be the speaker at the January meeting of the Guam Council of the International Reading Association at the Sheraton Laguna Resort on January 15, 2011, from 8:00 am to 11:00 am.

She will be traveling from Charlottesville, Virginia to share her "SASSy" writing tips, how to "Snag your reader, Act your character, Show your story, and Shake your world". School visits are Tuesday, January 18 to Friday, January, 21. A teacher workshop and a teen writing workshop are also scheduled. Call Cyndy at 789-1996 for more information.
