Kudos to the Guam Council IRA 2016-2017 Board!

Members of the Guam Council of the International Reading Association 2016-2017 Board received a special "Celebrate Literacy" award in honor of the their exemplary service in the promotion of literacy on May 6, 2017 during the IRA general membership meeting at JQ San Miguel Elementary School.

Annette Raguindin, IRA Board Member, explains the Tree Map during her presentation titled, "Strategies to Enhance Reading and Writing" on May 6, 2017 during the IRA May general membership meeting at JQ San Miguel Elementary School.




Dr. Matilda Naputi Rivera, Guam IRA President, also presented her workshop during the general membership meeting.  Thank you to all of those who participated in the workshops.  We hope that you found the information to be meaningful for your classroom instruction!

Grant awarded to Nelson!




Martina Nelson, a middle school teacher from VSA Benavente, was presented a $500 check for her grant proposal titled, "The Best Me I Can Be:  Using Memoirs to Develop Growth Mindset" from grant chairperson, Lois T. Gumataotao, on May 2, 2017.  Congratulations Martina, and best wishes on your project!

Congratulations New Executive Board Members!



Congratulations to our incoming 2017-2018 Executive Board Members:  Rose Marie C. Castro, President; Lois Taitano Gumataotao, President-Elect; Manda Tenorio, Recording Secretary; John Borja, Corresponding Secretary; and Geri Charfauros, Treasurer.  These newly-elected officers were installed during a special ceremony on May 6, 2017, as part of the May IRA general membership meeting.  They are energized and ready to carry on our mission of promoting literacy in our region!
